I think Walt doesn't know. He's just a little boy, a scared little boy.

La Dean Koontz has a story about a boy who is part of a cloning thing and he causes all kind of damage with his mind. I think his dad ends up killing him. i can't think of the name, though. Well he certainly must have been pissed and hurt by Micheal saying he had to get to work first thing Monday and he wanted his mother to take Walt cos Walt wasn't meant to be a part of his life. But he caught eyes with 2 people on the airplane - Locke and Hurley. Locke was even reading the infamous polar bear comic book. Maybe there was a picture of a plane crash. There was a picture of an island, I think. Anywayl, , maybe he wanted to keep Micheal from going to work as revenge (kid-think) and he wanted an adventure (kidthink) and Hurley and his cd player looked cool and maybe he connected on some psychic level with Locke. It isn't my first choice theory, but it is up there on the list.

I think Walt doesn't know. He's just a little boy, a scared little boy. Like Sawyer, Jack, John, Jin, Micheal, Charlie, Bernard, Hurley and Boone. What do you think about Sayid and Mr. Echo? Will Aaron be a little lost boy too?

Do you think Walt understands that he has special abilities yet, Laura? I'm not sure. His stepdad, Brian, didn't shed any light on that question either. All we know is Brian is afraid of Walt. I do, Annie, because he uses them very manipulatively. When Micheal said he'd go look for Vincent as soon as it stopped raining, it immediately stopped raining totally and completely. He saw the polar bear looking up at him just like in the comic book he was reading. I also believe that Locke has taken him under his wing and taught him how to channel his ability a little - to see things in his mind to manifest them. Like a typical 10 year old he is testing his parent(s) and that often involves some rebellion. However, Walt's rebellion is rather drastic. He set fire to the raft (did he do it with his mind? Or did he pick up something from Kate?); he might have killed his mother because she wouldn't pay attention to him.. he certainly killed the bird he needed help studying (as a warning?) and he might have helped to bring down the plane because he didn't want to go to NYC with Micheal. However, I think he was growing up fast on the island. I think he knew he would be sacrificed and that it had to be done. Like Jesus in Gesemenie. He warned Locke very sincerly and respectfully not to open the hatch. This was not a rebellion. When he appeared to Shannon those times, I think he was trying to help her or warn her. I don't think he is fully aware of how far he can take his talents but I do think he is aware of them. Regardless of his awareness, though, the writers are making sure that we are aware of them. Do you have any ideas how Walt's powers might be used in the storyline?

I think Walt's awareness is there, but rudimentary, like Harry Potter at that age. He knew he could make things happen, but he didn't know how to control it. Locke helped Walt start to see how to train his abilities with visualization. To someone like Walt, a little coaching could really go a long way. Once he tapped in to the source with visualization, he could probably find out other ways to bring out his powers, and things could escalate from there.
You know people have talked about Stephen King and Firestarter and Walt is following in that vein, starting the raft on fire. You're right. We don't know how he burned it.
I wouldn't be surprised if he escaped from the Seabillies by making something happen. That might be something to come up in the storyline.

One thing about Walt - reviewing season 1 and season 2 thus far in prep for Wednesday, the fella is sprouting like a growing boy should. When he finally does reappear in person, he'll look a couple of real-time years older.

You said it, Matt. He sure is growing fast. I don't know how they will deal with that. Maybe that's why he has to do IM now. Next, he'll be driving up in a gold Pontiac Bonneville with a couple of babes.
