I was just listening to "The Big Princess" podcast and thought you were spot on about how Ben knew Jin was alive.
I think that somehow, Ben meets Rousseau and she mentions Jin to him. Or, Ben comes across Rousseau's entire crew + Jin and from that meeting, Ben's future consciousness realizes that he met Jin in the past. Ben then figures out that since he met Jin at a time before the losties crashed, Jin must have been time skipping with the rest of the losties on island. Therefore, Ben can take a pretty educated guess that Jin is still alive, at least that he survived the freighter explosion.
I think you're on to something, hopefully we find out sooner or later.
