I'm rewatching "The Substitute" and I have a question. When it shows MIL traveling as the smoke monster (wicked cool, btw), it gives us two views. One view arrives at the DI housing where James is. Then, a second view cuts right back to the jungle where he arrives to where he's keeping Richard. It's not like the smoke monster turns around, leaves the camp, and then goes back to Richard. It's like it's two separate occurrences that happen at the same time. Can MIL be in two places at once?

I think twice we have seen the smoke monster appear as three smaller clouds. Also, MIB portrayed him as the medusa spiders. In "The Subsitute," I almost want to say that when he's in smoke form, he can magically appear from one place to another. Kind of like teleportation. I do agree with you, watching through the eyes of MIB in smoke form, VERY COOL!  |

Here's at least one time you can see Smokey as three separate clouds becoming one. And then when it leaves it splits into two and then goes back to one again.

Hmmm.... a little different, the clouds were still kind of wrapping around itself in the same vicinity, where in last week's episode they were far apart. But, we have seen "mini-monsters" (hey..made that name up just now) when we were first catching glimpses of the smoke monster early on....so, maybe splitting off is just something it can do. But, I do still think it is strange that when it split this time, it turned in to MIL in two locations. It may be that he went to see Richard first and then to Sawyer, but it didn't give that impression to me. They were very meticulous last season to show John, then smokey, then John.....like he couldn't do both.
I do love the clip. It was awesome watching that scene again...I remember freakin' out like Kate when Juliet pulled out that key. LOL

I'm up in the air as to whether those were just edits for time or whether Smokey can in fact just kind of teleport or split himself up.

If you look - especially at the beginning - every time there's a flash of white it looks like Smokey is in a different place - it looks like some flashy editing work - no pun intended
