I just have to take a moment and throw some praise out there for Season 2. I feel that it always gets designated "the bad/"off" season", but I am re-watching (all of the way through - YES, I know I have a long way to go in less than one month...) and I am just LOVING season 2. Among other things: 1) Have you forgotten how AWESOME Michael Emerson is? Need a reminder? 2 words: Henry Gale. 2) Another 2 words: Mr. Eko. I miss him so. "If you don't mind, John, I will start from the beginning." "That sounds like a good place to start." "In the time before Jesus there was a man named Josiah.... " "When you say the BEGINNING, you really mean the BEGINNING!" 3) There are just some really well written scripts and some fantastic one liners - with such beauties as "Well Happy Day, here comes Dr. Giggles." and Hurley's classic "Dude" at the demise of the tree frog. 4) the ENDINGS of this season are just superior... Sayid's revelation that Henry's story didn't hold up, the LIBBY in the mental hospital shot... good GOOD endings throughout the entire season. More to come... I just had a moment of great appreciation for Season 2 and wanted to ask if you all feel the same....?

I like season 2 because of Henry Gale, most definitly. I just still also consider it an off season because the change in Locke was so very drastic from his behavior in season 1. It was hard to watch him mess up over and over....
And I had to deal with Ana Lucia. Ugh.

I actually have to say I completely agree with lostmonkey. If I were to choose a worst season it would probably be season 2, but it was by no means bad. I think that it didn't progress the mythology a whole lot, but it also had some great character episodes, not to mention introducing favourite characters like Mr. Eko, Ben, and Desmond. Furthermore, I don't think Fire + Water was that bad. Again, it didn't really progress story, but it was a good character-centric episode. It was kinda depressing how far down Charlie went, but it made sense with his character and made the rise to hero Charlie that much more rewarding and awesome.
Regarding Locke, listen to Jack (on the podcast). We've always seen it. He's a failure. I love Locke, but I can't deny the truth that he ultimately failed.
Although, on the plus side, if DWG turns out to be good, then maybe Locke actually sacrificed his life for a good cause and that could give him some form of redemption.

I actually thought Locke was pretty cool for a lot of season 2. It really wasn't until he found the video suggesting that the hatch was fake that I thought he started falling apart. Of course, if Jack had had his way, they never would have pushed the button and Desmond wouldn't have been there to turn the failsafe, so who know what would have happened? Just another example of why Jack is an even worse leader than Locke. Agree about the season, too. I thought it was fantastic. Season 3 was probably the weakest for me, but still awesome for the most part... especially Locke's dad getting his comeuppance.

Just another example of why Jack is an even worse leader than Locke. Yeah, but at least everyone was in on Jack's not wanting to push the button. Locke did it without letting anyone know BUT Desmond. And then shut Eko out completely. That's not good leadership. That's insanity.

Season 2 is where we learned about the Dharma Initiative, about 3 different stations, about who the leader of the others, etc. There was plenty of mythology
