This is the hardest part to follow, but stay with me. Third, I believe Daniel Faraday was correct in saying that whatever has happened in the past cannot be changed. If anything, changing something in the past will only create an alternate(new) timeline, but the original timeline will always continue to exist because the events have already happened. So when Jack and company detonated the hydrogen bomb in 1977, the energy "leap frogged" them forward in time to the point in time that they really should be(back in 2007). Keep in mind what I said earlier, since the original events of 2004(Oceanic 815 crashing on the island, the Swan hatch having already been built, the Swan imploding, etc.) have already occurred this is why it looks like the bomb exploding didn't work with resetting time. Little do they know, something else occurred from the hydrogen bomb exploding in 1977, the resetting of the Oceanic 815 flight occurred, but in an alternate(new) timeline. Once again since the past cannot be changed, this new timeline was created(starts) in what would be the present(2007) for our on island people. When the hydrogen bomb exploded it sunk the island in 1977 while "leap frogging" the new Oceanic 815 alternate reality to 2007 which explains why the island is under water in this new occurrence of the Oceanic 815 flight. We can see the electric fence pylons, Dharmaville, and the foot of the 4 toed statue so we know certain events of the past still took place. It's a lot easier following this with a diagram(which I did draw to help me walk through this insanity). While I disagree with the idea that the alternate timeline is actually in 2007, I definitely agree with the explanation for why we have two timelines rather than just the one where the nuke went off. It's because for each timeline, whatever happened happened.

A couple friends of mine and I have been avid watchers of LOST since it began, but I've only just listened to your podcast for the first time recently. Anyways, I don't really keep up with all the theories out there, but after talking at length about the season premiere, we think we have pretty good theory about what all is going on, so I wanted to see if you heard it before and what you think. This will take a while, but here goes:
So Jack and all go back in time and blow up a nuke, destroying the island. The problem with this is that if they are successful, then the hatch was never created, their plane never crashes. But this means that they never go back in time to set off the nuke. Which means that their plane does crash. So we have a paradox. The only way around such a paradox (in one theory) is for there to exist two alternate universes. So, at the moment they set off the nuke, in the 70's, two parallel universes were created. This has always been the case - so from the beginning of the show, everything we've seen has just been one of these two alternate universes that have existed in parallel since the 70s. Since the characters causing the split were from the future, they had to have been from one of the alternate universes, and obviously not the one where the bomb exploded. So, at the moment they set off the bomb, they had to go somewhere, but they couldn't be on the island where the bomb just exploded, because that would mean they had switched universes, and that's not possible, so they get flashed to the present in their universe.
The island usually has a way of preventing such paradoxes from happening, and that's why it was jumping through time last season. The characters, despite their best efforts, just end up causing the things they are trying to prevent. However, the pocket of energy is special, and Faraday figures this out. The only way to change the future lies in that pocket, but it also has the unfortunate side effect of splitting existence and creating two the two alternate universes we are now seeing.
So anyway, on to Jacob and MIB. These two represent good and evil, life and death, white and black, etc. This is why Jacob, to achieve his ends, has healed or saved people (Locke, Sayid) and the MIB has killed people to achieve its ends. They are in opposition to each other, but they also MUST be in balance (assume it's a law of nature or something), and that is why MIB cannot kill Jacob. The existence of the parallel universes then, is the loophole. If the MIB exists in one of the universes alone and Jacob exists alone in the other, then existence on the whole will be in balance, but the MIB can be without Jacob in his universe. In the alternate universe (the one where the bomb exploded) I think the MIB destroyed itself - either with the nuke or sometime thereafter (perhaps what sunk the island?). This would mean there was a jacob in both universes, but only one MIB, in the original universe. Because there has to be balance, the MIB then would be twice as strong as the Jacob in his universe, so Jacob was able to be killed (but still not by MIB, by some human that could be tricked)
Now, we have the case that there are two universes, one with Jacob in it, and one with the MIB. They are slowly diverging, the one getting progressively better and the other worse (Thus in the alternate universe Hurley is very lucky, and in the original, he's very unlucky). Jacob knows that they must be in balance, so he is going to try to reconcile the two universes, but the MIB wants to keep them separate. This season will be about this conflict between Jacob and the MIB ACROSS the parallel universes, because somehow Jacob / MIB have the ability to interact with the parallel universe.
Hurley does not actually see dead people. What he sees is people from the alternate universe contacting him through Jacob, who has the power to make that connection. At some point this season we will see Jacob use Charlie to contact Hurley why he is in the asylum. Jacob is working through the alternate universe to reconcile the two.
There are also times when the characters can experience the alternate universe, perhaps when they get close to death. This is why Juliette, right before she died, said some crazy things about "going dutch" and then knew that the bomb had worked. She experienced for a moment her alternate self, and then snapped back. This could also explain the crazy things Charlotte said right before dying.
Regarding Desmond - The pocket of energy somehow has power over time and space in that it caused the split, but also it can mess with it. So desmond is on the plane sitting next to Jack, but what was happening at that exact moment in the original timeline? He was forgetting to hit the button on the island and causing their plane to crash. Perhaps not hitting the button allowed the pocket to affect Desmond in the alternate universe and made him disappear in the alternate universe, though he was really there. There was also an episode where Desmond was experiencing a better life with Penny, and that was him experiencing his alternate reality.
Some miscellaneous theories about Jacob / smoke monster:
I also think that Jacob is a white smoke, that we have yet to see. In the beginning of the show, when Locke "looked into the island and saw beauty", he wasn't looking at the smoke monster, but Jacob in it's white smoke form.
Also, the MIB can only take the form of unburied bodies on the island (Locke, Yemi, Christian). Richard knows this, so it has been very important for him to bury the dead, and to get Paul's body from the others in order to bury it. The MIB has been trying to find someone he could trick into killing Jacob. When he scanned Eko, he though Eko might be the one, so he appeared to him as Yemi to see if Yemi could convince him to do things. When Eko wouldn't listen to Yemi, the smoke monster killed him.
Ever since the 70's, Jacob has known that the split was created, and that there was the potential that he could be killed by the MIB, so he has been trying to protect himself. He was in the cabin for a while, and it was surrounded by a ring of ash to keep out the now more powerful MIB.
Thoughts? I know this is extremely long, sorry about that. :-)

Anyone who has listened to at least one of your podcasts knows that John Locke is a hot button issue with you two. I myself am a Locke fan much like Jay. But I was thinking to myself the other day why am I a Locke fan? I came up with a simple answer and I'm curious if Jay agrees and if you guys can see where I'm coming from.
It has always boiled down to this in my mind, Locke wants what I want. No I'm not paralyzed and wishing to walk again. I mean he is a man looking for answers about the island and it's mysteries, which from the get go is what I wanted first and foremost from the show.
He became my favorite character way back in season 1 because he found the hatch and genuinely wanted to get inside of it. While all the other Losties were building rafts, setting up camps in the cave, making golf courses, finding water ex-cetera he was already on a mission to get answers. Ya whatever this isn't good leader stuff but I'm not watching the show to see some dudes lead people well. I'm watching because I'm a fan of scifi.
This is probably why I care less about the off island back stories and more about things like who the others are, how the island time travels, how it heals, the statues history, Richard's deal, Walt's powers, electro-magnetic properties, Jacob/man-in-locke, you know the mythology and craziness about this island. The back stories are great and a crucial part to the show. I mean we need them to make emotional connections to the characters and sometimes they even answer some of these questions.
But really for a long time Locke was really the only character driving hard to get some answers about this d**n island. And that's what got me stoked on him in the first place.
Do you see where I'm coming from? can you agree with me Jay? maybe even you Jack?

Hi. I've never listened to your show, but I wrote lyrics about John Locke while falling asleep last night, and my friend thought you may get some use out of them. Feel free to edit and add and remove however you please...my only request is that if you DO use them you let me know and give me at least a little bit of credit. Enjoy!
Mr Locke I'm so sorry sir The life you've lead looks like it's hurt I don't think you'll get that kidney back Oh well, it's gone, and you didn't go whack
I know what it's like to not have a dad And I'll admit sometimes I get way mad It probably hurts a little more Getting shoved and falling down five floors
At least you had Jacob there! Soothing your hurt soul, showing that he cares It's too bad that you're the loophole And at the time he didn't even know
I hope no one tells you what you can't do Those words break hearts with what you've been through Even that phone sex girl, the woman you loved Can't fathom everything you were sent here to do
Well I respect the decisions you've made Your knife throwing skills and boars you slayed Someday I hope to understand Exactly how you became such a cool man
Yee haw!

Hey guys, First time/very long time....
Just wanted to share a theory I had to how I think both timelines will come together in the lost finale on may 23...
I am sure it's bull, but still like it so much, I thought I'd share....
I was thinking that Damon and Carlton always said: we know what we're doing, and I am sure they do...also they said it will all be explainable by science.... I also think, their last moment should bring it all together, so not only a gamechanger, but an explaination to every mystery left unsolved...
I want to start with some questions that really mattered from the start:
Why can Locke suddenly walk again after the planecrash, why does Rose have no cancer anymore, why can Jin make Babies and all the other things that are too weird to ever explain....
What the show taught us is... We don't travel through time, our concience does....
So how about this:
Locke gets healed by Jack in the alternate timeline, Rose never had cancer in the first place, and Jin, who is not Suns husband in this alternate timeline never had a problem with his sperms....now, months later (at the finale) all of them get into a situation where they again jump through time/space/dimentions, like in the planecrash of ajira 316... Or rather their concience gets exchanged with the one from themselves of oceanic 815, so the Locke that could perfectly walk physically, gets the concience of the Locke who thought he was in a wheel chair. Sun believes this is the man who is not going to make her pregnant, but Jin gets the body that can, and Rose concience that is thinking she got cancer finds himself in the body that is perfectly healthy...
So on a straight timeline, the alternate reality happens before the crash of 815, and later another event brings them "back" to the Island, back to start... Both timelines would matter, one for their body, one for their concience, the exchange brings them both together, because the last thing we learned was: the world has a way for course correcting and all the mysteries are simply explained by quantum physics...
Guys, you know what I hate the most? After the finale, I'm gonna loose all my virtual friends... I spend aonger time with you and some of your fellow podcasters than I have with most of my real friends... Pathetic, I know!!!!
Best, Daniel!!!

Hello Jay and Jack,
I have been listening to your show for some time now and I look forward to downloading your podcast first thing in the morning when it's up! Although i am a long time fan of you guys and the show I have never weighed in, but I felt compelled to point out something about this week's episode that seemed really obvious to me yet I don't see anyone else in the Lost community picking up on.
You asked what the episode title "What Kate Does" refers to, and although it's very clear in the flash sideways storyline (she helps Claire and by proxy- her lost "son" Aaron)- she also does something very significant in the island storyline. She goes to look for Sawyer.
What is so significant about this- you ask? It puts to rest once and for all why she came back to the island, and it was not for the reason she has said. I was always bothered last season by the "new" selfless Kate. As though experiencing motherhood by staking claim to Claire's son would somehow wash away what had always made her so Kate. So human. Her selfishness.
Good hearted- yes. Well intentioned- yes. But selfless? No way. I believe Kate really did love Aaron- so much so that I am convinced she'd still be watching cartoons with the Goob had Cassidy not made her realize that the reason she needed Aaron in the first place was because she was in love with Sawyer. She didn't come back to find Claire (although it sounds nice to tell other people that and its a great cover)- she came back to find Sawyer. To stop running. To settle down and have a life and kids of her own.
Only when she got back she found he had gotten tired of waiting for her to want to play house and settled down with someone else.
If she had really come back to the island to find Claire- why didn't she run off to do that as soon as she ditched Justin and Bitter Aldo? Jin ran off to find Sun the first chance he had. No- she went after Sawyer- to enlist him in one last adventure that might heal him- bring them back together. But he wasn't having any of it. And when we see Kate crying and saying sorry as she watches Sawyer chuck his engagement ring into the ocean- it's not as many (including Doc Jensen and Doc Artz) have suggested- because she is mourning Sawyer's loss. It's because she's mourning her own.
I know a lot of people consider this episode to be pointless filler, but I see it as a return to the dense, character driven, mystery laden episodes from Season One that hooked us all in the first place. The answers will come. Till then, I am along for the ride.
Keep on keeping on- love the podcast, you guys are fantastic! One of the very special things about this series for me has always been the community of nerds it has generated- and I am proud be one of those nerds. Thanks for giving us nerds such a fun and entertaining voice!
Looking forward to next week, Nicole in Atlanta

Theory: Why the island was under water... The definite Answer
I have a theory about the show that I have not heard expressed before anywhere. First off since the beginning and introduction of Eloise Hawking she has served as someone who has tried to get people to where they are supposed to be. The same with Widmore and his associates in their dealings with Locke when he teleported to Tunisia. They also wanted Locke to succeed in getting everyone back to the island. On the island the Others have been following the orders of Jacob who has also served as a mysterious and hidden figure. Most of his orders have been lists and and or tasks for the Others to do without question or understanding as to why they are doing them. One example would be why they abducted certain survivors and why they were building a runway for an airplane (Ajira Airways) and didn't really know why. The reason is they were looking out for themselves as it was crucial that Desmond push the button and then ultimately crash flight 815. Reason? So the survivors could be used in the game to allude Smokey/Man in Lock for Jacob, and ultimately save the island from sinking into the ocean and saving Eloise, Widmore, and the rest of the Others. Because Jack and the gang crashed they had a reason to go back. Eloise and Widmore knew that they would end up in 1977 because they were there in '77 and interacted with them. They knew that Jack dropped the bomb and that the knowledge he gained from Daniel Faraday (which is why it was important he be there as well) into the hatch that the Dharma people were digging.
They also know that it prevented the Dharma people from sinking the island, because had Jack not been there to drop to the bomb, Radzinsky would have kept drilling and created a far worse outcome. The island then would have imploded and sank into the ocean killing everyone. This is why Eloise was so worried and worked so hard to get people into place and make sure it still happened that Jack would crash, Jack would go back, and Jack would create the incident.
NOW... if Jack's dropping of the bomb down the hole prevented the incident, then Oceanic 815 would have never crashed correct? YES.
Now if the PLANE NEVER CRASHES, then Jack NEVER GOES BACK to the island either. This would create a new timeline where everyone on the island would be at the mercy of whatever the Dharma people were doing. In this case drill into a massive pocket of energy sinking the island creating this alternate universe we are seeing now. In this universe, Eloise and Hawking are D-E-A-D. So you can see their motivation for getting everyone back to the island. Jacob, Smokey, Eloise, Widmore and the rest of the Others life depends on it. Tada... Mystery solved!

I get the DI sinking the Island, but it's still odd to try and figure how an Island would sink in the first place...given any experiment.

Hannah H.
Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out this episode. I liked it but I'm not crazy after it like I was after LA X wanting to see whats next and get as many sneak peaks as I can for the next epi right way.
Now I am a Kate fan, I like her and I think that this was a good episode for her but I just think maybe its awkward b/c they didn't really leave us wondering much more or asking more questions. It seemed pretty straight out. I"m glad I'm not mad at Kate though b/c what shes doing in the "alt" (sideways) like I thought I would be.
Also the teaser for next week didn't get me very excited either, I hope that they put out another one.
Sawyer and kate were awesome their scene was so good. The whole ring thing was heart wrenching. But sawyer blaming himself for making her stay was even sadder. and then he said: maybe some people are just meant to be alone. oh man. I'm glad that the writers aren't just writing Suliet off though b/c its right for him to be wrecked they were together for three years!! thats longer then his relationship with the O6.
Kate: "I'm sorry for coming back for you." Sawyer: "Which time?" -- I thought he meant either the sub or the O6 time Then he says it wasn't her fault and that it was his b.c he got her to stay... as mentioned above. (He's forgetting though, she chose to stay with him, she could have left anytime in those three years but she didn't)
sad thing is that now Sawyer is ultra subseptable to FLOCKE/SMOKEY/MIB etc.
Kate is going back to the temple now then.
Then theres...
Dogan: "He's going to turn bad just like your sister." Jack: Stunned.
go to ending shot: CLaire coming out of the jungle all junglefied.
SIDEWAYS
I liked claire and kate sticking together for Aaron and that kate stood up for claire and went back for her. but I don't want that to be the end of them in the "alt" I mean what is kate going to do now anyway.
ps. she totally realized something more about Jack when she saw him a second time, that glance was more then a "oh theres the guy from the plane" gaze AND she knew the name AARON when claire said it so heres my theory with the ALTs:
Theory:
The characters in this timeline remember things, people and important things that were key to or for them on the island as long as it was a deep emotional tie for them. EX:
Kate and Jack (obvious emotional tie) and they both had it Kate and Aaron Jack and the familiarity of being on the plane Jack and Desmond Rose and Jack Charlie and detoxing drugs "I was supposed to die" comment Claire remembering the name Aaron (the woman gave birth on the island... if that isn't an emotional tie idk what is)
TA DA~!

Jeff Loved the premiere, and I'm so glad I found your podcast. Some fascinating stuff from Darlton in their recent interview with Doc Jensen in EW: popwatch.ew.com/2010/02/02/lost-premiere-damon-carlton/ What we’re trying to do there is basically say to you, “God bless the survivors of Oceanic 815, because they’re so self-centered, they thought the only effect [of detonating the bomb] was going to be that their plane never crashes.” But they don’t stop to think, “If we do this in 1977, what else is going to affected by this?” So that their entire lives can be changed radically. In fact, it would appear that they’ve sunken the Island. That’s our way of saying, “Keep your eyes peeled for the differences that you’re not expecting.”...When our characters posited the “What if?” scenario, they neglected to think about what the other effects of potentially changing time might be and we’re embracing those things. So if the island was sunk in '77 with no survivors, there's a whole bunch of unintended consequences/deaths that Faraday and Jack didn't consider: * Faraday himself, because * Eloise was preggers with him * Widmore * Ben * Charlotte * Miles * For that matter, all of the Others and Dharma people Penny is still a mystery. She seems like she should be old enough (based on the actress being born in '74) to have been born, and she was definitely born off-island (while Widmore was "breaking the rules"), so she could be alive, but she'll have grown up without knowing Charles. The key person to watch is Desmond. We know he's special moving back and forth through time -- maybe he can move sideways, too. One other though from Darlton -- they're adamant that the flash sideways is an equal, equivalent reality, not a dream or alternative: This is the critical mystery of the season, which is, “What is the relationship between these two shows?” And we don’t use the phrase “alternate reality,” because to call one of them an “alternate reality” is to infer that one of them isn’t real, or one of them is real and the other is the alternate to being real. Cheers, Jeff

Alexander
hey guys,
just had a theory that i thought about last season, and i think i might be onto something. so in regards to Man In Locke (MIL), i believed him to be the one and the same as the smoke monster. that seemed to be confirmed this season. however, i believe his powers are greater than we expect. i believe that he also has the ability to present himself as not just Locke, but as those who have died. so in my theory MIL has also been Eko's brother, possibly the real Sawyer/ Locke's fake dad, Ben's daughter Alex, etc...but most importantly Christian Shepard. i think that MIL has been Shepard this whole time. he's the main manipulator. the dark force. he planned this whole thing out with amazing foresight and vision. i think, due to the images that we were allowed to see IN the smoke monster, that he has some way of weaving through a person's past and knows how to exploit that knowledge and use it to his advantage. so he set up Locke, as Christian, "guiding him" to the right path. However that path really was just a path to Locke's own death. A death needed so that MIL could eventually retake Lock's form to "guide" Ben to the path of killing Jacob. all set ups. the way i see it, MIL and Jacob are some deities. Jacob, represents life. MIL, death. Jacob can restore life, as seen as him bringing Locke back from his fall. and MIL can take the form of the dead and possibly has a gateway to the underworld. if you want to incorporate all the Egyptian references. i doubt that this is a wager between God and the Devil as others has stated it. too sensitive of a subject matter for Primetime television. but ancient gods of Egypt? well that's a little more acceptable.
that's my theory and i'm like glue to it...

Is it just me, or does Lennon not look like Howard Stern (see attached)? I know he isn't everyone's favorite, so I understand if you pass on the nickname.
Also, I am almost 12% sure that the whole series is about redemption. The whole reason that the fake-Locke/MIB has been appearing to key people as the horse/Christian Shephard/Eko's brother is to assuage them from fulfilling their redemption.
Where it has worked: -Claire from raising Aaron by abandoning him. Also, my guess is that he used her to mucky up the ash circle around the cabin. -Others, by halting their reproduction (also, i believe the same illness that made the French team crazy, is the same illness that is in Sayid, and was also responsible for the killing of the mother and babies on the island. Remember good ol' whats-her-name telling Ben that it is something that happens at inception. It must be an attempt of MIB to steal his way into regular existence.) -(As Cabin Boy and Christian Shephard), Convincing Locke to leave the island in order to bring everyone back. My guess is that by sending Locke off island, Locke hosed his chances at success, thus leaving him to be the willing spirit that MIB needed.
Where it has not worked: -Eko's refusal to abandon his faith and work in the face of his past. Thusly smushed once he was viewed as a threat. -Airline pilot. He has that awesome ability to read minds, and had chosen to finally only use it for the good of all humanity. He had to go.
Its now a question of whether the remaining peeps like Sawyer, Hurley, Kate, and Jack will redeem themselves, or end up just like the MIB predicted, the same as it ever has before.
Also, I think that the Dharma initiative was a big snag in the plans of Jacob/MIB, because Hanso was the descendant from whomever got off the island from the Black Rock. He, outside of the "big plans," of Jacob/MIB decided to go digging into the island, and create the big ruckus.
Also, i wonder what is happening to Rose and Bernard now that the whole shenanigans are afoot on the island.
Love your podcasts, btw. I can insert more buns-kissing here if you would like. I didn't start watching fast forward until listening to a podcast of yours about it. Thanks for your hard work in adding an extra dimension to the world of TV.
Cheers, david

Rick Hello Jayey and Jack. Sorry Jay but Jack was called Jackie earlier so it was your turn. First time emailer, long time listener. I just wanted to put this out there. I keep hearing a lot of the MIB being the smoke monster and it appeared to be proven when Fake Locke answered Jacob’s question about finding a loophole. We know he is the smoke monster but is he really the MIB also? Think of this. When we first went to “Jacob’s” cabin we see that someone or something was trapped inside by the powder or something else. This, in my opinion, was not Jacob but rather MIB. That is why he needed Locke’s help. Jacob lived in the 4-toed suite many years prior and also after this event so I don’t think it was ever Jacob’s place. So that would mean it would have to be smokey or the MIB. Well we know that smokey was not trapped during that time since he was busy judging the Losties, so that leaves MIB. Anyway, I don’t think it is as simple as smokey=MIB. I think we know very little about the man in black right now. Now on to smokey. I really think that smokey is a Djinn. Read below for an explanation. Djinn: It is a supernatural creature which occupies a parallel world and together with human’s (ex. Locke, Ben, Jack, Kate) and angels (ex. Possibly Jacob- fallen angel?) . A Djinn can be either good or evil and possesses free will. Jinn is the plural for jinni which is derived from the Arabic root JaNaA which means to always hide or be hidden (hmmmm…. Like the jungle at all Smokie?) Genie is derived from Latin genius, which meant a sort of tutelary or guardian spirit. Arabic lexicons provide the rendered meaning of jinn not only for spirits, but also for anything concealed through time, status, choosing another form, and even physical darkness. Pre-Islam times- The Djinn has also been known in Latin beliefs as The Guardian Spirits and The Evil Spirit. The Jinn is made from smokeless fire (literal translation is “subtle fire”… ) by Allah in the same way humans were made of earth. Djinn (having free will) refused to bow to Adam when Allah told him to- and then we was thrown from Paradise to earth and called “Shaitan”. Djinn are invisible to humans unless they want to be seen and Djinn often harass and even possess humans (we’re not talking possession like you may be used to- we’re talking possession as in getting humans to do what the Djinn wants the human to do). Djinns live in remote areas such as mountains, seas, islands, trees, and in the air. Muslims believe that the Djinn account for much of the ‘magic’ perceived by humans such as lifting people and objects into the air, mind reading, and mimicking the voices of deceased humans (Whispers?). In Muslim legend, a Djinn is capable of assuming human or animal form and exercising supernatural influence over people. In Arabic folklore, a Marid is a Djinn associated with the oceans where it finds sanctuary. Marids are often described as the most powerful type of Djinn, having especially great powers. They are arrogant and proud. Like every Djinn, they have free will yet could be compelled to perform chores. They also have the ability to grant wishes, but that usually requires battle, and according to some sources imprisonment and rituals. The Djinn is capable of appearing in human and animal forms and influencing humankind for either good or evil. Djinn’s are also supposed to live much longer than humans. Furthermore- some believe that Djinn can be trapped (this is where the legend of Genie’s come from) or confined to an area or bound and summoned by humans. Also- an Ifrit (which is a class of Djinn) is an enormous winged creature of smoke, either male or female, who lives underground and frequents ruins. While ordinary weapons and forces have no power over them, they are susceptible to magic, which humans can use to kill them, capture them, or enslave them. As with the Djinn, an Ifrit may be either a believer or an unbeliever, good or evil, but he is most often depicted as a wicked and ruthless being and one that tempts man on behalf of god so god can judge them. Thanks for the great podcasts guys, always entertaining. Oh and Jay, just wanted to let you know there are more like you out there, at least as far as Ghostbusters goes. I also have the movie memorized. I watched it 100 times in one year back in 85. They kept a running total in my classroom, yes I had no life. But I still know that the lyrics “I can wait forever” in the worker’s headphones as they are getting kicked out of the college was the only time that song was in the movie even though it was on the soundtrack and a ton of other useless bits of information along with the entire script. It has been a long time since I’ve seen it but these things stick with you even if you don’t want them to. So whenever you start any line from Ghostbusters, I always end up finishing it. So anyway, wanted you to know you weren’t the only weird one. Of course this is limited to the Ghostbusters portion only, can’t speak for the rest. Rick

I hope you share this with all of your listeners.
Dear jay and Jack
I usually do not watch the "enhanced" episodes before the new show, but i am so glad that I did tonight.
When the scene between Locke and Jack in the airport played, I was as emotionally moved watching it a second time as I was the first.
It has become evident to me that no matter what universe, place in time, or location our Losties are, they are going to finally be redeemed in the ways they tried so desperately for on the island.
I believe that scene is in my top five along with Kate radioing Jack on the beach in "Not In Portland" and reciting the " five seconds story, because it reminds us, the audience, that these characters are still human, and very much alive in our own hearts, even if they are dead.
How will it end? With each of our characters finding the individual redemption each of them lost before coming to the island. Jack will finally have faith. Kate will stop running from reality. Sawyer will appreciate relationships, and learn to value friendship and love. Sun and Jin will split ties with the evil in their lives, and become their own person, together. And Locke will appreciate his life, wheelchair or not.
They will find happiness: that moment we take for granted where the sounds around us swell like a symphony, the colors we see become more vibrant, the air smells rich...and we know we are home.
God bless you for being there on the most incredible cinematic journey of our lives.

Anthony This is hopefully going to be a brief email to introduce myself and give a couple thoughts and ask you a question. My name is Anthony, im 29 years of age and a huge Lost fan, I live in Lanivet, a small village in Cornwall England. I work as a Postman, so I get to listen to all your Podcasts as well as all the other offerings from the LPN while im out on my delivery. It makes my day pass much faster and it will be a very sad day when they all come to an end. Theories I've been thinking about the two time lines we are seeing at the moment, and I cant help thinking they've both got to be as important as each other, could you really see the writers wasteing this valuable story telling time in the final season with a flash side-ways showing us what could of happened? We know the writers like to use differant ways to tell the story.... Seasons 1,2 and 3 FLASHBACKS, 4 AND 5 FLASHFORWARDS, what I think we are seeing now are 'FLASHBACKS TO THE FUTURE' the conclusion of events happening on island will end with them time traveling back to the opening scene of this season on the plane where the time line we are watching off island will lead to the end of the show. This would make both time lines equally important because the end game achieved on island is what allows our losties to return to the plane. I've been wondering ever since season 3 why Bens mother said "call him Benjarmin" just as Lockes mother said "call him John" in season 4. Ive come up with two posibilities:- 1. Locke travelled back to before the time of his birth where he saw Richard and told him to visit the hospital the day he was born, I therefore think it was predetermined he would be named John because of his time traveling. Im sure this predetermined theory because of time travel might have many more ramifications over the whole story. 2. In the same way Claire had some kind of da ja vue that told her to name her son Aaron in What Kate Does, I think Ben and Lockes mum might be doing the same. (incidentally I still think Ben and Locke have the same mother and are half brothers......who knows, ones father could be Jacob and the others man in black.....thats my crack pot theory) Question Please could you discuss on one of your podcast why Locke was drawing the smoke monster as a child, its like the da ja vue our losties were experiencing on the plane was being experienced by Locke from birth, I think this is why Richard was so shocked he choose the wrong thing during the test.....Richard was expecting the da ja vue to kick in.
