Who cares...Esau is the stupidest name ever. There are very few similarities (pretty much just Jacobs name and the fact that they appear to be rivals of sorts...that's it!)...we have no idea if that guy is even a brother. The ONLY thing that started this is people literally foaming at the mouth waiting to link that Jacob with the bible Jacob (most likely due to the brainwashing room)...
Newsflash...Lost isn't the bible people. It's not just some obvious rip of some dumb *** story from the old testament.
It's virtually a sure thing his actual name will not be Esau. The casting call called him Samuel...his name will probably be Samuel. If you don't want that then just call him anti-jacob or black shirt or something.
As for the whole "I know it isn't his name but people just understand who I'm talking about"...well that's just because of the steam this dumb connection caught up from the start. I'm fairly sure 90% of people had no idea (or interest) in who Esau is/was before this...hell Jay sure didn't....anyway...yeah...get over the Esau crap it's just stupid. Are we really (as a community) going to sit here and call this guy Esau all hiatus? The writers must be truly shaking their head thinking "wow...our fans have gotten so incredibly insane that it's going to be hard to finish the show off good b/c they've all lost their minds and clearly don't understand what the show is anyway anymore"...

Esau is not a stupid name it is a very old name that is thousands of years old. And don't go attacking people because of their thoughts. And don't go attacking someone else's theory. There are a lot of connections from the whole of Lost's story to the Bible. And to a lot of ancient religions, ancient Greek, Egyptian, Buddist, and Hindu.
People are not saying it is for sure Esau, they are using it as a place holder for the guys name because we don't know the name. But there are similarities from our story to the story of Jacob and Esau.

And I will say again that people are just gonna have to get over most people calling him Esau, because no one's going to stop.
I mean, for one...it's the shortest name he's been going by. While I find Lockeness Monster the most humorous, it's a lot to type out every time and LM just looks kinda...stupid.
If we call him Samuel then we might as well call Jacob, Jason...seeing as how that's what his casting call said. Not to mention just about every other casting call having a different name to through the audience off to that public information....
No one honestly thinks his name will be Esau. In another forum someone jokingly said his name will probably be really random like Pete. I mean, remember finding out Ben was named Ben? The name sounded ridiculously un-menacing.
And I fail to see how it's a terrible placeholder name. I think the fact that the story of Jacob and Esau is about two forces at constant odds is more than reason enough. Any other name has zero meaning....
Anyway, it's just stupid to go all freak-out over a name. Especially if it just has to do with the religious connotations in a show filled with a million of them from a million different religions.... It isn't the Bible...we all know that. So quit whining and get over it. It's just a name. Call him Douchey McBlackShirt for all anyone cares. We'll all know who you mean. But I'm sticking with Esau. Old Testament or not, it's just a simple name to me.

Dude is it stupid no way yeah lost references alot of things like baseball (the # are Yankees # and THE REDSOX!) but that is not the point several righters are very religious and one of the executive producers is VERY Catholic ( i forgot what one and am not in the mood to use the google machine) think about it if you go back and look for every non-religious and religious references i promise there are more religious references. I would even wager that there are more references to just Christianity or just Catholicism.
And if you think this is dum Eko built a church.

more correlation's - Esau was hairy and Jacob smooth-skinned,
- Jacob has a son Benjamin (biblical Ben's mother also died in childbirth so i would say his name has some meaning Although he is the youngest of Joseph's 12 children the 11th Joseph is Jacob's favorite perhaps thats why he never sees Jacob)
- Esau was filled with hatred toward Jacob for taking away both his birthright and his blessing. He vowed to himself to kill Jacob as soon as Isaac dies.

No offense, but Esau just seems to make sense at this point from all the things we know, sure we're assuming but that's part of the show, that's part of the fun. If you have a better suggestion for a name, I'd have no problem hearing you out, but at this point in time Esau makes the most sense. |
