Maybe instead of mini and powerful propellers the nano-objects could be made out of metalic elements and could be controlled by an electro-magnetic source on the island. This might also explain why each nano-object wouldn't need their own "intelligence" source ... also, they wouldn't need to necessarily have a combined "intelligence" either ... because the source would be the ultimate "intelligence" which would guide them physically and in function.

Yes, just what exactly are the electromagnetic experiments Hanso is into? My son thinks that pushing the button possible resets or repowers (or something) the EM field that controls the nano-objects.

those nanite things took over your ody and your skin was there but it looked different (did anyone else notice that the others legs were not like the rest of the sein) also nanites could make up a form and take any shape. it formed a black clowed that floed around and killes things to steal their atoms. this was a nonmiletaty thing and was formed by a grupe of cientists. finaly when the electro magnet went off it ripptes the nanite skin off the body.

Gruesome. I checked out that book from the library today. In the very beginning there is some reference to making kids sick to protect them from the nanites. Is there something in that book about that? If so, how interesting that would be, since we have an illness on the Island as well. Maybe the nanites either ate off or infected Marvin Candle's and Montand's arms. This just sounds better and better all the time.

Annie, If I remember right, they used a form of bacteria as a carrier to help build the nanobots. I don't remember that part specifically though. It's been a while since I read it. It's a very good book though. Michael Crichton is a very intelligent many, and his book presents some great ideas. Nothing we have been capable of yet, but you never know when genius will strike. I mean, who would have thought we could have produced a nuke back in the 40's??

CATOMS
dont you see? the elecromagnet could be controling these catoms. maybe it has something to do with the code? if the code does not get entered, this swarm goes out of control!
this theory about catoms would explain why kate and locke saw a black swarm! they are not both crazy! it was a swarm of unformed catoms. it would also explain why we couldnt see what was pulling locke. they can manipulate colors to blend in with it;s suroundings, like a chameleon. a billion moving metal balls, shifting could sound like what the "monster" sounds like...shifting metal! someone is obviously controling them, that is why it went after locke. cause lock came face to face with it once before. whoever is controling it, felt that lock was getting too close to the hatch, and the Dharma experiments...IT IS A SECURITY DEVICE! because the catoms are mearly robotic they cannot kill locke, but they can grab him and poll him down a hole , so he does not open the hatch!
holy crap! i belive this sooooo much!

Ah, "bacteria as a carrier" like say . . . Meningococcus? OOOOOH!

Just wanted to say that, on the fuselage, one of the creators said that the moster is NOT made of Nanotechnology. Sorry to de-bunk that theory

IS or IS NOT? Because some of us are excited about this one.

Dirge,
can you give us a link to back up what your affirmation about nanotechnology in Lost ?
A thread on the Fuselage ? we need your source

I told you so: Nanotech has nothing to do on the island ! Too far-fetched

That black smoke itself is far-fetched whatever it is. Granted I don't get out much, but I've never seen anything like that. Even teeny tiny bugs in a swarm don't look like that. It really reminds me of a school of itty bitty fish. . . how 'bout air paranas? Heh. Heh.
