"So, it appears that the Octagon Global Recruiting business IS indeed the kick-off to a larger ARG, and that word comes officially from ABC. On Variety.com, ABC had this to say:
"Michael Benson, exec VP of ABC Marketing, says the campaign is aimed at keeping current fans interested until the show's February return, and to catch the eye of people who hadn't watched before. "We were trying to play it like it was real and not break that fourth wall," Benson says.
That would be a ~7 month ARG. A huge leap forward from the Find 815 build up for season 4 of LOST. "

I wonder if they will be going for the more heavy duty, obscure puzzle solving / finding of the Lost Experience, or the more story telling, lead you through the story more style from last year. I kind of liked that there were two levels to last years, where you could play the game and watch the videos without having to do too much hard work or keep up with everything, while at the same time there was a deeper level of some content, for those die-hard fans. I'm hoping for something in between...

Hit the booth today, at 3529 on the Comic Con floor... pretty girls handing out flyers (couldn't figure out the instructions for how to fold it into an origami swan); they said they'd be taking appointments tomorrow at 9:30, I think... probably not a good sign that I couldn't finish folding the swan... saw a great Hurley costume, big dude with long curly hair had grown out the beard chops and had a bottle of DHARMA water, t shirt, shorts, and backpack.

So, my take on this is that someone went back in time, to 1978 or so, and is on island. Someone who knows about the DHARMA initiative and how it will be purged. Someone who gave Pierre all the information he had about the future. The question is whether this person who went back is purely traveling in their consciousness, or corporeally. If it is someone traveling in consciousness only, then that is very interesting. It would need to be someone who is at least maybe 35 years old in 2008, probably older to be privy to so many sensetive details. It is someone who was on the island prior to the purge, and survived it to live to 2008, at which time he was thrown back in time, perhaps by the island's field? Could it be the camera man?
It looks like he considers being able to send a video signal into the future 30 years to be proof that the research he has been doing on the island is valid and worth continuing. It seems like for whatever reason Pierre only has one shot at sending out the video.
It is interesting he rubs his arm, because that predates this to be prior to a couple of the other videos of him, in particular after the Swan video, where he talks about the incident. Lots to speculate around this. Was the incident one that preceeded this recording and caused something bad to happen to his arm?
Finally, time is the essence. Perhaps much of the powers of the island are tied specifically to the island's odd relationship with time.

Assuming this is tied to the ARG, it makes me wonder if perhaps the protagonist in the ARG is the person who will end up being the one to travel back to Pierre.
