i just feel like ranting about stuff. if anyone likes it, i might do another. there are a lot of things i can rant about. it isn't explicit, but my opinions may offend. if you disagree, please tell me why. today's topic: lol i hate it when people say lol. now, it's OK when you laugh at someone else's joke. you sound like a doofus when you laugh at your own jokes in real life, but on a message board, it is completely acceptable to put a lol between every word
ex. i lol think lol i lol am lol more lol funny lol than lol anyone, lol but lol in lol reality, lol i lol am lol desperate lol to lol say lol something lol funny. lol (kinda like malcolmthrock)
that's really annoying. the other thing that i can't stand is when people say lol in real life. correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of lol to recognize that someone said something funny? it may sound sarcastic if you reply hahaha, so lol actually serves a purpose. if lol means laughing out loud, why would you say it, out loud.
ex. person 1 tells person 2 joke.
person 2 says out loud "lol" aka laughing out loud.
person 1 says "what?!!? what did you say?!?"
person 2 says "lol. you know, laughing out loud."
person 1 says "then why did you say it, if you could just laugh"
you get the picture. in conclusion, lol is fine, if you don't say it out loud, or if you do it to your own jokes. it makes the post harder to read, and makes me just want to skip it. what you are saying may be valuable information that will be skipped, because it is incoherently scrambled by an anagram for laughing out loud.

Sorry. Is my use of "LOL! ;D " a problem? Am I using it too much?

no. i'm exaggerating my problem with lol. i use it, i just read a post by someone else who made some good points, but used lol too much, and it made me not want to read it. ine or 2 in recognition of someone else's joke is fine, but when you laugh at your own joke, thats what annoys me.

I say "lol" out loud in real life more often than I do on the internet. I picked it up from my friends, when we all started saying it rather sarcastically. Now when I do say it online, it's a reflection of my actual speech.

I say it out loud every once and a while to scare my friends and family. It's really fun.

haha i think that "lol" is one of those type of words that has lost its meaning and kind of evolved into something else - gone are the days when "lol" would be reserved in messaging programs for things that ACTUALLY made you laugh out loud... today "lol" is more of an acknowledgement that something has been said, possibly of a humorous nature, maybe even just the equivalent to breath from the nostril (u know when sum1 says a crap joke and you PUFF air through ur nostrils? haha) - well thats what its become... if something ACTUALLY makes u laugh, i'm more inclined to write "HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAA... OMG THATS HILARIOUS" or something like that - "lol" doesn't cut it for me anymore

today's topic: sk8r culture, and the word sk8r in general back in 6th grade, i was what is considered a sk8r boi, but now, the term makes me throw up in my mouth a bit. but before i get into a rant abut current skating, i must inform you on the history of skating, aso of my knowledge learned from the documentary "dogtown and z boys." not that crappy melodramatic movie "lords of dogtown."
skating started, so that people could surf on the sidewalk. there were lame skating competitions, but it was mostly considered a fad. in the 70's, the z boys revolutionized skateboarding. the made it edgey. during a drought, they would drain pools, and skate in them. the first olie was performed when people were trying to skate over and out of the pool. correct me if i am wrong on any skating facts.
today, skating is a suburban fad, just as it was in the 60's. it's a disgrace to dogtown. i used to skate, until once, someone referred to me as a "sk8r boi." i had to make a long hard decision not to skateboard ever again. i eventually started to skate around in the parking lot outside my house, but only because i will never be seen there, and never be called a sk8r boi. i even shaved my beloved long hair, because i could not stand the fact that i was becoming the conformist suburban kid i vowed to destroy.
i was walking by my old school, when i saw some kids with long hair, and a bam margera shirt. ooohh, how i hate bam margera, with his hip portrayal of cool that makes me want to vomit. they said the words "dude, radical, awesome, and sweet." too many times in one sentence, and it made my mind explode.
i think that this recent destruction of what use to be an awesome culture can be attributed to two things.
1) mtv. oh how i hate mtv. their promotion or sk8r, instead of skater makes me sick, but that's for another rant.
2) tony hawk's pro skater, underground, American wasteland and such. what annoys me is that this game franchise, just like skating itself, used to be cool, but it became a corporate marketing scheme to capitalize on what is portrayed as hip by the media. (keep in mind that in real life, i never say stuff like "conformist" and "corporate marketing scheme") it's the same game over and over again, but yet, it still gets a new version every year. i haven't bought one since underground 2, which i immediately sold, after finding out that it was all about bam margera being a "jackass."
you get the picture. in conclusion, if you do skateboard, don't pump up the image of being a skateboarder. if you have long hair, realize that it is not cool, hip, individual, etc. stop contributing to the destruction of skating by watching viva la bam, or buying tony hawk games, and ladies, don't like a guy because he's a skater. and no, i'm not saying this because i'm jealous. it just angers me when people judge a book by a cover, which is what modern day skating is all about. thank you, namaste, and good luck.
