Where does the saying 'As American as apple pie' come from?
According to Wikipedia, the English apple pie goes back to 1381. The recipe would later be brought to the British colonies, that later would be the U.S.
You've also got the Dutch recipe, which also go back a long way. There is a painting from 1626 which shows a Dutch apple pie.
