I was going to reply in that other thread... but after the first page or so it was hijacked by chatters for near on 10 pages and I didn’t feel like getting lost in it... So I will tell my story here and encourage people to do the same, only without the pages of nonsense posts between them. If you have a comment or question that isn’t about the topic, please PM it or start a new thread. Okay, onto the background of my nickname... I have been on line for a very long time. Well before it became the in thing and common. Back then, it was mostly text-based pages, bulletin board systems (before forums), and chat rooms over IRC. Back then I was known as Goldeneye (which was named after Ian Flemming’s estate, long before the movie was even a plan), because I was a fan of all things James Bond, but wanted a nick that was related but not common. People called me GE. Then it became common once the name of the new movie was released. It became harder and harder to keep my name in IRC or other services as the hackers (a common problem back then) kept doing everything they could to steal it... so I needed to change. At first I thought I would be clever and use something like Au-N-I, but that was just annoying and nobody could easily say or understand it. So after a few months I had to choose a real new online identity. I thought it would be an issue, but there was something else happening in my life at the time that kind of made it easy. I am an avid Role-Player and RPG game designer. I was running a game at the time in my own created world (The Land of Karn) involving a group we called The Travelers of Karn (2nd wave). The group included a number of NPCs that were tagging along with the PCs. Some of these NPCs were the soldiers that followed one of the PCs Knight character. One of these NPCs was the sergeant of the unit, a man named Fredrik Dragavan. Even though I was the GM and no NPC was supposed to become special to me, the group seemed to have other plans and made Dragavan become a central character. He became my character, even though he was supposed to be just a lowly NPC soldier. I really identified with him and a lot that happened to him in the story, including the love story he ended up in. So I decided to take that name as my on-line identity. I changed over all my accounts to that title and let everyone know that GE was now Dragavan. It was a popular change and I started to answer to it without thinking. I even started using it outside of the online world, as my pseudonym with writing and creating artwork. In fact, the only place I seem to use my “real” name any more is with family, day job, or old friends. The best part is there is a whole big story behind the name. The first draft of the first half of the novelization of that first adventure to introduce him can be read at my deviantArt account (click on my banner in the signature to go there). It’s called Ravendorn’s Quest and you can go back through my gallery to read the chapters if you like. If you do happen to read it at all, I would love to have as detailed of feedback as you are willing to give. If you want to be clean when reading the story, skip this paragraph for it contains spoilers to the future of the character beyond what is in that novel. Beyond that first adventure and story he has gotten married and now has a kid on the way. All this is incredible considering his back-story, which has yet to be fully told. He is not exactly a normal Human man. He is a Dragon trapped (more or less) in Human form unbeknownst to him even (at least for a long time) for the last 10+ years (in game time). Although he now knows what he really is, he hates being that and stays in Human form with his Human wife (and daughter on the way). Soon he will start to see her aging, while he doesn’t, and it will drive him into madness as he searches for a way to stop her from getting old and dying on him. I look forward to it. For those not hip on Role-Play slang, here is a short guide: RPG = Role-Playing Game: Interactive storytelling and adventure game where you play a character inside the story you are making with friends, usually around a table. D&D = Dungeons and Dragons: The first real RPG ever made. Not the one I play or even like that much. GM = Game Master: The person who runs the game and controls the overall setting and story (also called a Dungeon Master in D&D) PC = Player Character: These are the characters that the players control and create. NPC = Non-Player Character: These are all the other people in the story that are not played by a player, but are controlled by the GM.

My name is Katie, because that's what my parents named me. It means Pure. My name might have been any number of things, including Kathleen, except that my dad had dated a Kathleen, and it freaked him out. So, Katie it was... short, sweet, and to the point...

R*E*P*O*S*T
My full nick is Casper The Friendly Ghost.
When I started to surf the net I was an X-Phile (fan of "The X-Files" that is). I read this stupid joke somewhere: "Scully, look out, there's a ghost." "Mulder, calm down, it's only Casper the friendly ghost.".... it wasn't even funny but it got stuck in my head nevertheless.
At that time I'd just moved into a new town... new school ... I was the new kid in class. Nobody talked to me in breaks and I felt invisible even though I just wanted to befriend everyone (which I did after a while so put away your tissues!). Sounds familiar?
That was the main reason for choosing this nick next to having 'friendly' in the nick which I consider myself or at least alway try to be.
Lastly there's a character in German puppet theatre called Kasper or Kasperle. It's sounds the same as Casper. His job is it to make all the joke (and to hit the evil crocodile with his own jesusstick... but that might have not been my primary motivation... ) and I love to laugh and joke around. So I liked that aspect too.
I knew that I wanted to keep my nick probably forever so I put a lot of thought into it. Sorry if my explanation got kinda long here.

Kasper:
As 'Casper' isn't that uncommon you sometimes find me under 'Casper1311' ... my birthday... and I always write blue in forums if possible.
