The DeGroots were Michigan University Fellows or Doctoral candidates or something that founded the Dharma Initiative back in 1970. They are the hippy looking people in the Dharma Orientation film.
Ethan and Goodwin must be in a different and separate group from the Seabillies.

I think his father wasn't in the coffin because the airline didn't put it there. They just said they did to appease Jack. They just put in an empty coffin.

AWOL: Absent Without Official Leave In other words, people leaving their positions/duties without permission. It has since evolved a little in everyday slang to mean people/things missing unexpectedly.

Blalock Trekking To Lost?
Dark Horizons, citing E! Online's Watch With Kristin column, reported a rumor that Jolene Blalock of Star Trek: Enterprise will guest-star in an upcoming episode of ABC's hit Lost.
Blalock was supposed to guest in the second episode of the current season, which was originally Sawyer's (Josh Holloway) backstory. But the episode was swapped for a Michael (Harold Perrineau Jr.) flashback.
Blalock will appear as a woman from Sawyer's past. The monster is also coming back very soon, Dark Horizons reported. Lost returns with new episodes in January.
In related news, TV Guide Online reported that Lost star Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia) had a lot to say when she was arrested in Hawaii earlier this month for drunk driving. According to documents obtained by KITV-TV, Rodriguez was "very argumentative" during her arrest, at one point telling a cop: "Why don't you just put a gun to my head and shoot me? You've already taken my freedom, you might as well take my life, too!"

Hmm, I heard the girl from Sawyer's past was the lotto girl that drew Hurley's numbers.
And I agree that I don't think the airline put the plane on board. Regulations are regulations, they wouldn't just bend the rules over a sob story.

Jacks Dad is too big a part of his flashbacks to just be dead, I think we are going to see a lot more of him in the future. I like to think that he has something to do with Dharma, that would be cool. We never found out why he was in Austrailia in the first place
