First off, if you noticed I put "Gay porn western" (if you are going to quote something get it right) in a list of genres that included a number of things that did not connect to all the films on the list we were talking about. I made the list to cover a large gambit of film styles and ended it with a joke aimed at the general public impression of Brokeback Mountain. And besides any of that, if you wanted to make a Gay Porn Western and that's what you set out to make (not saying the Brokeback people did this at all), then you should make the best gay porn western you can and have it still count at a good movie. It was added to lighten the mood of the rant a little and no offence was meant.
As far as seeing all the movies on the list is the only way to be critical of you is also wrong. You said things that were critial towards other opinions and it doesn't matter what you put before them ("I think" or anything). If I said "I think you are an idiot," that's not any less inflammatory than saying "You are an idiot." As such people can take offense to being put down upon no matter how many of the movies they saw.
I have seen most of the list and, as I said before, love every aspect of movies. I read behind the scenes information, watch documentaries about filmmaking, listen to every commentary track on every DVD I get (and often won't buy them if they don't have one, waiting for the deluxe DVD to come out), and go to the movies as much as I can. I love and respect film for every aspect they have to offer, and I judge them accordingly.
That being said, and in all seriousness, I still stand by my vote for Batman Begins. It was nearly perfect in execution for what Memento director Christopher Nolan wanted and set out to make. The acting was strong (for the most part, Katie Holms was a little flat), it had a great set dressing and costuming team that really brought the world alive, the writing was strong, and it achieved (and I think exceeded) all of the goals it set out to reach. As such, I say it was the best movie of the year.
My list of top ten would look very different from what you or most others would most likely think of though. I don't just look at the blockbusters, or just the epics, or just the heavy dramas, or just the "message" films... I judge them on their quality within the framework of what they wanted to make. Narnia and Sin City would also be on my top 10 list of the year since they were both amazing movies that achieved everything they set out to make and more.
Next, as much as I seem to be ranting and everything right now I am still very much enjoying myself here. It's not a silly happy enjoy, but this is a subject I care a lot about so I enjoy a change to discuss it in any form. Especially when I see the same disservice being done to films and the industry from people who seem to only count one kind of film as deserving of praise. Usually the Epic Drama. I argue against the Oscars choices and professional critics for the same reason most of the time.
Lastly, I did like Star Wars and it did feel like a nice ending to the series, but I do not include it in my list of 10 best movies of the year. It was fun and better than the previous two by far but not a great movie. It did not live up to it's potential and I don't think fulfilled everything it was set up to be. I am only including this information to let you know I am just not praising all the movies on the list, but honestly believe what I am saying about the ones I have spoken of.
