Alright, my friend recently let me borrow his bass guitar in the hopes that I could become their new bassist Anyone have any good tips or songs they could share with me to help me improve? I can already play "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine decently...though way under tempo

That's awesome! ;D Yeah, RATM has some pretty cool guitar riffs...the main riff to "Know Your Enemy" is my favorite Bulls on Parade solo was especially great And what he did with the killswitch in the Guerrilla Radio solo was equally worthy

Well...uhh...how much do you know guitar....music scale....music in general.. depending on your knowledge I wouldn't start learning songs first. That's what most people do. First thing I did was find some excersies and completely MEMORIZED the fret board front and back so I wouldnt even have to think about where to put my fingers. THEN you can play any song anyone puts in front of you.
For example...I had only played elec guitar for about a month...never held a bass in my life. But I memrized the fret board....a guy needed a bass player quick and he gave me the 3 songs we were doing...I picked up a bass for one day and then killed it the next night we played...But..that was just me...it all depends on your knowledge now...
80% you play each note with the bass drum except in the chorus sometimes. so watch what the drummer does...

Well in general I know a good amount about music, but guitar specific I am a "newb." I'm already working with your advice. Good thing I can memorize easily ;D Haha yes...Matt and your White Stripes

I bet Iggy could help you out... And GIO gave you some very good advice - you have to basically watch the drummer - bass is a weird instrument in that way - it's both "musical" and "Rhythmic"
But if there's any way I can help - PM me
