I happened to stumble upon this classic and watched it again after at least 18 years. And whilst I couldnt help but notice the incredibly sad and miserable storyline. Any possible positive part of the story was cut to the next "dramatical scene". -most of the women cried 24/7 -slaves never seem to talk proper English but terrible slang and most insultive grammar (not to talk of the ridiculously racist german dubs, immitating the "slave tongue") -men are either drunk, being shot at or they lose a relative (like rets daughter)
I cannot imagine how this film could have possibly become a classic. oLO
PS: I do remember though my most horrific childhood scene was " the saw-amputation in the field"- a man screaming in the off and my d**n phantasy peaking.

I found it dull and staunchy. The only time I found it great was when the main dude told off the girl at the end. I laughed.
