I know a LOT of us are Tolkien fans and today is his birthday.

Awesome!! Guess we should all go home and read LOTR, or watch the movies! I'm all for that!

Here here to good ol' Tolkein! You really can't go anywhere without finding a fan noadays, which is awesome. I think I'll finish up the first part of The Two Towers today in his honor. God knows it's been sitting on my dresser for about a week.

Thanks for telling us! I got a Bill Hicks DVD for Christmas, and it mentions he was a huge Tolkien fan - and that on the day he passed away, he re-read The Fellowship of the Ring.
I'll read a bit of it myself in his honour, and maybe toss in the DVD.

I've been rereading the LotR Trilogy (I'm trying to make a tradition of reading the whole trilogy once a year) and I just finished Two Towers. Perhaps I'll start RotK tonight.
Also I got a beautiful edition of the Simarillion for Christmas (the edition illustrated by Ted Nasmith) and I haven't read that book for a while either....
Decisions, decisions...

Ted Nasmith is my favorite of the Tolkien artists.

I love Ted Nasmith. He and John Howe are my favorite Tolkien illustrators.

There's this Tolkien meetup in Toronto this summer...The Gathering of the Fellowship. Nasmith and Howe are supposed to be there, and some minor actors from the film - and they're planning another trilogy screening, the EE's back-to-back-to-back.

Oooh, that would be so cool!! I'm going to a Harry Potter convention in Las Vegas in July though, so I don't think I can afford any other trips this year I've only been to one LotR convention, but it was amazing, although expensive. Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and the guy who plays Gamling (and one guy who was played different things like an elf and an orc) were there. Dom was there on another day (I could only afford to go one day) so I didn't get to meet him. But conventions are awesome no matter who is attending!

It was so cool!! They actually had the prop double of Sean Bean in the boat, in the part where he was let go off the waterfall.
