Maybe the guilt of it being her fault for her son's kidney being stolen led her to be motherly.

locke's mom is wayne's (kates real dad) bitter ex lover and when she found out who killed him she went to kate to be motherly. ;D

A Widmore, the real Sawyer, Locke's dad,
or Randy?

i think she had an affair with jack's dad but did not know he was married and so she married and then she found out he was married and left him!
