well, i have plenty of jokes i could crack at you, but instead i think i'll explain (assuming you actually don't know)
If your parents are married (or maybe they're not, but let's say they are) and say your dad dies. your mom remarries. he's your step father.
another situation
your mom and dad get divorced. you mom remarries. step father.

Yes. They've said things that hint from time to time. I found this clip in an older eppisode, i believe it was the mustard vs ketchup ramblecast. anywho, jay was talking about something that his mother did, and he refers to as "Jack's wife, my mother".
