I have just started watching this show this season and I have not seen anything that remotely answers one of the mysteries on the island. This is probably due to the fact that ABC wants to extend this show as long as possible. So if they reveal the mysteries that would pretty much be the end of the show. Do you think that any of the mysteries (The numbers, The hatch, The others, etc.) will be revealed this season. What are your thoughts?

My guess is not many.
I believe the secret of the others will be revealed this season, the hatch probably not because that's a huge plot point, the numbers have already been discussed but not in depth, and that's pretty much all I can think of. You covered that well.
Indeed it would end the show if the mysteries were solved. But by introducing more plot points, it keeps the interest, while clueing us into the answers we sought after so unconditionally. Wow that was way too deep for me. I need to go think about my life.

Hmm...well one of the things that has appealed me to Lost is the fact that they answer things but keep you wanting more. I feel there will always be "big" things that everyone wants to know. Last year it was "what's in the hatch". A few years from now the Others might not even be the big secret. I think they're going to keep us in the dark about the main things for a while, but not to prolong the show. After all, as you know, every big answer leads to bigger questions.

Yeah, they are obviously unsure about how long the network will commission the story, so it looks like they are going pretty slowly at the moment. If they keep hauling in the huge audience figures, then they will probably get their 5 seasons.
But if viewers drop off, i guess they will have to wrap it up in 1 last season with reveals all over the place.
I actually hope they are told they will get 4 seasons so the pace gets upped slightly, but we still have lots of episodes to look forward to.

Yep I agree. Still plenty of LOST but I don't know what I'll do with my life when it ends! I'll probably just watch the DVD's every Wednesday. And Jay and Jack will be out of a sub-job!

I don't see it going further than 3 seasons. Unless the writing team can stay really creative that far away, it will end up rotten if it goes further. In my opinion of course, which is known to be flawed on the very rare occasion.

You're probably right. I think there are too many people like us thinking and speculating about the show so that no matter what the writers come up with it will be disappointing in the end.

Well, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Damen Lindelhoff(sp?) has said that he has the show planned out for a good eight years. Whether that translates to eight seasons or eight island years, I don't know.

See, now if they stretch it for 8 seasons. The 8th one could be fantastic because we'd finally know what the hell is going on. But until then they will be battling killer spiders and sharks that crawl on land and other types of bogus stuff.
