As I recall, Dr. Jack is a killer poker player, able to read other people well, so maybe while he was playing tonsil-hockey with Juliet he was able to tell if she's legit or not. I think it's kind of like the old war addage, "is the enemy of my enemy my friend?" One thing you can count on is Juliet going in the direction of getting off the island, no matter who's in her way or going her way. Great character, maybe as good as Ben. Except for that lying thing.
