If I could, I'd get one, but I don't have that much money (plus 8GB is too less for me), so I guess I gotta carry around my iPod and my cell phone for a bit longer.

The two year contract is the same with almost any phone, if you have AT&T/Cingular. It just means that you're signing on to be with AT&T for another two years. But if I were you guys, I would wait a while until at least another version comes out. The iPhone is good and all, but for the price it is definitely not worth it. Typing in stuff is horrible, and takes alot of getting used to, and the screen gets fingerprints on it. It takes a while to load web pages, but it does look good. The camera is decent, but it doesn't take video. You also can't send picture messages to anyone. It has no chat program (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) like most phones do, and you can't install programs from anyone but Apple.
Yeah - I forgot to mention the positive, it is a very nice phone, and since it wasn't mine i was using i only got a few hours to try it out. But after using all the features, I'm gonna recommend the phone I have - a Nokia E62, which has many of the same features as the iPhone, and also some better ones, for anyone who is looking for a more inexpensive alternative for the iPhone.

I had to take mine back this evening, because it was doing weird stuff. It was a bummer because I stood in line for 5 1/2 hours to get it then only got to use it for like 5-10 minutes.
They ended up replacing it since they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it either. The replacement works fine and it's lots of fun.

keep in mind that i am a total mac addict, and i will always be faithful to apple, but i think the iphone is a horrible idea, for three main reasons.
1) the storage is waaaay too low. i can barely keep all my stuff on a 30 gb video. 8gb would be torture
2) if you have a cell phone and an ipod, you know - the ipod battery lasts only so much time, because its doing stuff, but when its off, its not doing anything. you cant turn a cell phone off, because then you wont receive calls. this way, your iphones battery will drain up like that, because it is on, wasting up batteries.
3) its super high priced, and for a product not as good as the less expensive ipod video, its really not worth it.

I have been using mine since Friday. The battery life is amazing! I have been playing at least 2 hours of video, 2-3 hours of music, browsing the web and making a few calls everyday. The battery lasts average of 16-20 hours. Thats a huge leap in battery life from my battery draining video iPod (due of the hard drive) and my Sony Ericsson t630.
Yeh, too bad it's only 8 gig flash. But if Apple uses hard drive instead, the iPhone would have required charging every 4-5 hours with intensive use.
Apple might release a hard drive based video iPod based on the iPhone design without the internet and phone features in the Fall. That's hope the battery life is as good as the iPhone

I've been using mine for many of the features today and for 13 hours now and still have half the battery life left. I've surfed the web, taken notes, checked the weather/temp several times and the traffic, plus played the ipod, made phone calls and sent text messages. Not too shabby.

I believe that after two years, it will be available for most carriers. AT&T/Cingular has the rights for the first two years, but after that, hopefully everyone.

Some hackers are already on their way to successfully unlocking it (google unlocking iPhone). The downside is that you cannot update the firmware and software through iTune, but instead, through some kind of hacked hardware restore from a software image which might cause some problem.

Yeah, I was keeping up with the announcements live on Macrumors.com, I must say I am really impressed. Its a little pricey though, and I wish it had more storage than 8GB but its pretty awesome. It makes me proud to me a Mac Addict ;D I heard that they're already in plans to release an iPhone Nano...possibly by Christmas. Less features, less $$$ ... but I'll probably be lusting after that as well. I want one soooo bad, but right now, I don't have an iPhone kind of life LOL. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19682602/
