I think you might be thinking of the developers conference.
Panther - for some reason I was thinking it was spring - April... Not sure they've officially announced a day.

It makes me wonder though: say, you place a phone call, and we know the iphone has touch screen, will you not hang up accidentally everytime when the phone makes contact with your ear? Unless they go with the ridiculous ngage 1 approach and you have to hold it like sideways against your ears? lol no that'd be ridiculous. I'm sure they've come up with something solid.

There are three sensors in it. 1. to detect the rotation shown in the comic, 2. to detect if the ear is close to the screen and shut off the touch sensetivity. 3. to detect the ambient light you are viewing the screen to dynamically adjust the brightness on the fly. JLSK wow. That is ridiculously meticulous. Although the third sensor is a bit unnecessary, because you can just adjust the brightness manually, which isnt hard at all.

wow! just wow! Proximity sensors ftw! Lesse who will be first to come with a similar kinda product (clone). Creative, iRiver, Sony? I mean if the iphone runs on a (scaled down) version of OS X, then surely another device could be made to run on some linux OS. Or maybe MS's Zune 2 will have to make up for Zune 1? We'll see what the future'll bring. I can't wait to try the iphone at the first chance though! www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/01/10

Well, this uses a capacitive touch screen, not a resistive one, so the whole ear sensor thing could just be being done with the capacative sensor, since it can sense proximity as well as touch. Anyway, yes, overall a well thought out phone, with a couple odd ergonomic issues, and unfortunately maybe too tied down to not being able to being able to be modified or used with other carriers. But I doubt that they are not gonna accept verizon on there. cuz verizon is like the most popular phone service right now. (Im not sure, it might be cingular) but anyway, I know a ton of people who hate cingular and love verizon and vise-versa, so if they restrict it that much, then they wont earn as much as they would if they accepted multiple carriers.

I think cingular is the most popular, I dont know for sure, not big into cell phones not my style, all I know is cingular is what I have and they carry the only cell phone that I am interested in to do things other than make calls, and that would be the iphone

Oh just heard the latest podcast, and Jay, no one was allowed to touch the iPhone on the floor. Just gawk at it spinning in a glass case with guards around it...

So the iPhone is out now. Did anyone get one? I'm totally broke so I can't get one....yet.
I'm just confused with the whole 2 year plan. I want to buy one but not use it as a phone.
