Jay, I was wondering this after you dissed it so badly on the last podcast. Personally, I love American Idol, and have even watched it INSTEAD of LOST on occassions last season. (cause I would just download LOST the next morning). Idol isn't just a talent show, its comedy, as Jack said. Plus, its produced some very legitimate recording artists. Kelly Clarkson is at the top of the pop music scene, and Carrie Underwood is the hottest thing right now in Country music. Not trying to give you a hard time, just wondering. Did you audition one season and get rejected or something? ;D j/k

Kelly Clarkson is at the top of the pop music scene, and Carrie Underwood is the hottest thing right now in Country music. See above point for clarification. Clarkeson did a half hour show down here in Oz. Teens paid through the nose to see her... and all they got was thirty minutes of "since you been gone". d**n right she's a joke.

I really don't like it except the auditions. The rest is just taking too many viewers away from Lost.

It's quite pathetic how desperate some people are just to get on TV. I need something with more substance than just having the chance to laugh at someone mocking someone else.

I think it's because Lost fans are more "cerebral" and can't enjoy a mindless show such as American Idol. I'm curious to see if I would enjoy AI if nobody from my area was advancing in the contest. That may happen for the first time this season.

I don't want to speak for Jay. But we all know that he is a musician, and I know a lot of musicians that hate Idol. Because they take people that don't really work hard for their music. Idol is for people that decide one day, "Hey I think I can sing, I deserve a record contract." And I know people that have worked their butts off just trying to get atleast one song on the radio, and are so talented and yet will never get a contract, because Idol does not look at real talent.
There are a few on Idol that you know really want it, because they love to sing, and want to share their music with the world ie Chris, Taylor, and Bo. But majority just want the fame, and money. Of course they want the money and fame that come along with it, but they love playing so much that they would still play even if they never made it big. Someone once told me, "You don't join a band to make money." Most people in bands are broke all the time. Because they put so much into the band they have nothing left.
And Idol is so critical of people. Instead of looking at talent they look at looks, and appeal. I understand they want someone that looks nice. But majority of the best voices are there are not from people that are good looking. Rod Stewert, Steve Perry, The 3 Tenors, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Berry White, etc. I think if Idol actually took into fact talent, and not just looks I think they would get more respect from Real Artists.
I enjoy watching also, but sometimes the show makes me so made when they don't focus on the real talent. Which is why I wanted Taylor to win, because here was a guy that loved what he was doing. He did not care how ridiculous he looked, he loved what he was doing. And deserved it.

Hey jlyn, have you heard Tayor's CD yet? I was wondering if it was any good. I bought Chris' for my co-worker for Christmas and I hope to make a copy. Taylor's tour is coming here and I would LOVE to go but doubt I will be able to.

I hate American Idol, its a waste of time. If I want to listen to good music then I'll pop in a Led Zeppelin CD. If I want to get a headache, instead of listening to people trying to sing then I'll just go downstairs and listen to my mom yell at me.

I think I'll wait until after the holiday. And Steve: I really like your GNR obsession. GNR rules, but I like Poison more. Exalt to you for your music tastes. Did you hear Chinese Democracy was put back again. Suprise, suprise.

Did you hear Chinese Democracy was put back again. Suprise, suprise. They cancelled the San Diego show. But I already saw them once this year. And since this is the first time they actually announced a release date, and they fired their goat-loving manager, I can actually believe this one. Oh, and to stay on topic, Idol sucks.
