Maybe he is a king. There are a lot of tribes in Africa with leaders who could still be considered "kings". They still have problems with bloody in-fighting amongst war lords/kings and their tribes over there. Remember Rowanda a few years back? My daughter goes to school with a girl whose uncle or grandpa or someone is "king" of a tribe in Africa. Maybe Eko is a king or "prince" of a tribe who makes money by drug smuggling. Maybe he overlooks the smuggling because income from it brings a better standard of living to his people.

Hmm...true. I think it's possible that he fled his homeland due to some fued between different tribes. Although I don't know if Nigerea has the same sort of history of conflict that Rwanda has between the Hutus and the Tutsis. I'd be cool if they figured something out though.

I think the next episode is going to also focus on Mr echo. Here is my theory on him from another thread:
I don't think Echo has anything to do with the drug trade, I think thats way to close to racism for the lost writers. I think Echo is a preacher, because of the Bible, the 40 days thing, and when he was looking for michael he kept saying he would pray for them. But I also think he has a dark past that led him to being a preacher, hence his physical build and instincts. Maybe he was part of an african malitia a long time ago.
I am also hoping that Sayid get himself into that computer room! I mean the guy can fix a motherboard, radios, etc. You would think he would be able to tell us alot about the computer and what it does.....I was kind of wondering why Michael was the one doing that.

It seems to me, Eko has to be a deep down good guy. They're setting him up as the third point of view between Jack, who has a blind faith in science, and Locke, who has a blind faith in fate (or the island itself as an instrument thereof). Eko's faith is mostly religious, but certainly not as "blind" as the others'. He may be the most pure seeker of truth the island has.

Maybe Mister Eko is one of those guys that emails you asking for your bank account information so they can transfer 47 million dollars and share it with you when he makes it to the USA.

Maybe Mister Eko is one of those guys that emails you asking for your bank account information so they can transfer 47 million dollars and share it with you when he makes it to the USA. That make sense alright! But do you think he has received the money or was that the reason for his trip with the plane. And why is he going all preacher mode on everyone. This could be his cover and he's sticking to that as long he has people listening to his sayings. After seeing the preview, I'm thinking about "Biblical" moses and the sea. This time it's Mr Eko and the smoke. I think Loche isn't buying Mr. Eko preaching, he's smiling and thinking : this one is loco alright. Cheers!

I don't know if this could shed some light, this is the 23rs psalm. I saw that no one had put it up. You can thank google. I haven't had time to disecet it yet
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Well, that's the psalm Mr. Eko is saying during the preview for the next episode, so I can only assume it's important.
Somehow my eye keep drifting toward "Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me". Killing stick, anyone?

There are probably more Psalms corresponding with the numbers and is so, we're back on the trail with the biblical idea to it all. As I mentioned Moses earlier. Wasn't it mentioned in the bible that he (Moses) was a roman after all, maybe he's (Mr. Eko) part "other" then just to keep us guessing in the meantime (waiting for the god forsaken rerun period to be over).
Cheers!

Yep. Eko takes comfort in killing people with his stick. I take comfort in slashing people with my lightsaber on Star Wars Battlefront 2 for PSP....BEST GAME OF ALL TIME! The PS2 version has more to it tho....
