I just found a brilliant picture of it all. Great Photoshopping and editing on their part. cmeister2.uwcs.co.uk/hatch.jpgEDIT: WHOA. I was mulling over the picture and I noticed that the black smoke monster does indeed have a name. It's called Cerberus. It makes perfect sense, too! Cerberus was the guardian of the underworld, so in a sense, Rousseau was right about the monster being a security system for the island. Wowwww.

I'm guessing Dharma Initiative something. I think this map must have been made while Desmond (or someone else) was alone in the hatch, due to the note saying "estimated travel time incompatible with 108. Do not attempt to survey" if there'd been someone else there he could have done this. This also means that at some point who ever was doing a lot of time out of the hatch (actually, it could have been the guy that came before...Kelvin? he was alone too i guess). Finally, there must be some way to bring the blast doors down, or else it would have been awefully hard to write anything consistantly. I think the blast doors are there to keep the people out of the pantry area during the food drop, somehow the food was supposed to be put into the pantry. That's just what i think, it certainly isn't without holes, but i like it.

The higher quality map I think came from a magazine article or something - if you look at the page that it originally posted in you see a note at the top thanking the producer's for the map. Perhaps the lost magazine got a higher res version for the mag and someone leaked it.
Also, firebert, see my post in the theories section - I totally agree that the blast doors had to have a manual switch.

I think I might have a correction. On both maps there is some latin repeated three times 'sursum corda' which the first map translates to 'lift up your heart'. When I look at it I see 'sursum creda' which i've translated to 'upwards to believe'.

The higher quality map apparently sourced from Entertainment Weekly. Here is a link to the latest version floating around with almost all the translations now done: comicscollector.port5.com/imgs/mapTranscription.jpgAlso, a link to EW's lost map page: www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary/0,6115,1178384_3||1045714|1_0_,00.html This is really worth looking at since it has some extreme close ups of areas of the map. It's pretty obvious they got a high res version of the map from the show folks and not the screen caps. JLSK
