That's what I think this whole Henry thing is. I think he IS an Other, and that they're making it oh so obvious so that we'll think "If he was, they wouldn't make it so obvious." They knew that we'd think that way. It's a little hinky, but hey. I like it.

or maybe it's reverse reverse reverse psychology, since we're catching on, because it's so obvious, obviously he's an other, because they wouldn't do something so predictable, but we'd know that, so i clearly can't drink the wine in front of me.
I think he is an other, but i don't think the obviousness is an attempt to trick us, i think it to make the others creep us out a little, since it seems like we're starting to get a little to comfortable with them. But then, part of me says he isn't an Other, because he seems so suprised by all the stuff in the hatch, if he was a Dharma employee he'd definitely know all that.
So that puts me to think that either Henry Gale is there to find out how much the losties know about Dharma, or he's an other other (not Dharma) and...i dunno, maybe he's trying to infiltrate the losties camp or something.
Right now i'm leaning toward spy.
oOo, i'm about to hit 100 posts!

I'm sticking with my theory that he's an Other and he's there to take Aaron.

do you think he was meant to be captured? because it seems like the others can definitely over power the losties, shown pretty clearly by Ethan, so why go through all the trouble to get aaron?
and do you think that roussou is with the others, since she's the reason he's at their camp in the first place.

why go through all the trouble to get aaron? You could ask that about their first attempt also. I don't have a specific reason that they would go to all this trouble but it's the same reason that they went to all this trouble the first time they tried. I don't think Rousseau is working with the pseudo-seabillies. I think Henry got caught in the trap on purpose but Danielle had nothing to do with it.

I think that Henry Gale is an other and he was sent there to get a handle on what is happening in that camp. From the online diaries it seems that he has a "brother" there- whoever that may be- but the others must have had some reason to send in a second spy to assess how dangerous the losties are. I don't think that the others thought that Henry Gale would be kept hostage or beaten and that is why the "brother" is so upset. Maybe they thought the story would be believed because they know that there really is a balloon on the island with a grave next to it and that when they find that the losties will believe Gale and let him go so that he can really begin his spying. But then, he might just disappear because he seems to have already assessed some major weaknesses in the lostie camp.... John vs Jack, trust, power struggles, etc.

or maybe it would be suspicious for this insider to be spending a lot of time in the hatch and asking jack and locke questions about everything. But for someone completely new it seems natural.
