Looks like the work of Photoshop to me.
i could easily make this same picture using the dharma logo, the opacity tool, and a few snippets here and there. If this IS in the episode, please let me know.

Looked at it again, and you can see some awkward pixelations around the dharma logo.

This has been floating around for a long time. There was no Dharma references at all until the second season. I have seen the unedited screen-capture, as well as some other reference photos of the plane and those like it, to show what the design actually is before they photoshopped it. I wish I could remember exactly where but it was on the Numbers forum (4815162342.com) a few months ago.
The basic shape in the picture (the sorta partial octagon thing) comes from the shape of the connectors for the cargo door welded and bolted to the plane. It causes some seams and shaped in the folded or bent metal. They then took the basic lines that were there and added to them to make it look more like a Dharma symbol.
The first version of it I saw was rather subtle and far more convincing than this later one. Somebody took the first one and over enhanced it and added more fake lines to it, to create what you see here. Much like the video that made the rounds a while back showing the smoke monster appearing in the pilot, this takes what was really there and adds to it to create a fake clue.
