Why did the monster kill the Pilot and not Eko & Locke?
I heard on a Podcast that the producers confirmed that the monster didn't kill Locke or Eko because they weren't afraid, but the pilot was scared, so he was killed.

Just a thought: What if it was Sawyer was the one who was having the affair with Sara? Then it would almost be like a paralelle to the island now: Sawyer and Kate have more chemistry than Jack and Kate. But you can tell that Jack likes Kate.

if anybody knows the answer to that, and i just missed it, i'd be thankful. On watching that episode a second time, i at least cought the meaning behind Danielle saying "they said they were going to take the boy"

The way I saw it, Rousseau wanted to trade Aaron for Alex, and set up the fire to sgnal the others.

That wouldn't make sense though, since Rousseau said that the day that the Others took Alex, she saw a pillar of smoke as well, signifying that "The Others are coming". The Others did indeed come that same night, so it must have been The Others that had lit it, otherwise it would've been a crazy coincidence that the Others did indeed come when Rousseau had said they were coming. I assumed that Rousseau made the decision to take Aaron to the Others when she saw the smoke, thinking that this was her chance to get Aaron back.

Plus there was the comment when they came up to the fire that there were no footsteps or signs of disturbance on the sand around the fire. I took this along with the statement Eko makes about tracking others to mean the others probably set up the fire.

Perhaps. Where were the Others, then? Was the signal fire to show the raft had left, and to send the boat on patrol? I remember this part of the episode was a bit of a let-down when the Others were a no-show.

Yes... good point. Rousseau did not start that fire because there were no footprints around it, and that makes it absurd like most of those other questions.
Lost has a lot to answer for.

I know it was probably a throwaway line, but it's so friggin' specific that it makes you think that it has to have some significance.
